The Situated Listening Experience: teaching Soundtrails at Macquarie University

Hamish sitting behind a computer screen with three young people watching and smiling.

We are delighted to see Soundtrails now being taught as part of the ‘Podcast and New Sound Media’ course in the dept of media at Macquarie University. Soundtrails founder, and Phd candidate, Hamish Sewell, is now working alongside Dr Virginia Madsen (ex Radio National and producer of note) and her 60+ students. Utilising the Soundtrails platform to explore place-based narratives and the ‘situated listening’ experience, it’s been a lot of fun working with some truly gifted students who are pushing Soundtrails in all sorts of new directions. Over the next few years, and as we broaden our offerings, we expect Soundtrails to be taught more broadly across a range of different sectors and institutions. Good things to come!
