Soundtrails arrives in Melbourne

Red and white badge saying Conscription? NO with the 'NO' on the map of Australia

Soundtrails has just hit publish on Resisting Conscription in World War 1.

Based in inner city Melbourne —our first Soundtrail in Victoria — this sonic snapshot zeroes in on the foment, politics and protest in the city in the lead up to the 1916 and 1917 conscription plebiscites. While walking from State Parliament through to the old jail, listeners hear of campaigners like Adela Pankhurst, street protests and union songs, and prominent Catholic figures like Daniel Mannix. The walk is the latest offering by the Australian Living Peace Museum, an online museum dedicated to telling the stories of Australia’s heritage of peace and non-violence.

Big congratulations to the ALPM for pulling this off, and special thanks to the selfless work and scripting of Alex Pierce.

Thanks also to producer Michael Green for giving this his care and attention, and to Alice Garner for lending us her fabulous voice.

More please!
