Soundtrails would like to thank Principal of Kapila Khandvala College of Education (KKCE), Dr Jayashree Inbaraj, along with her staff and students, for allowing us to present Soundtrails recently at their college in the heart of Mumbai.
KKCE is a well known and highly respected teacher training college for women. Its namesake, Smt. Kapila Khandvala, was a former president of the college, and a groundbreaker in Indian women’s education. While traveling in India, Soundtrails director, Hamish was able to present to students and staff, as well as undertake a practical foray into the backend of Soundtrails. We were also able to have a go at making a couple of Soundtrails with several smaller groups. It was a lot of fun.
Suffice to write, India is so very steeped in significant sites, albeit myths, culture and stories—not to mention people who are hardwired to mobile phones 24/7. So the idea of, and practical skills involved in, working alongside an important local community education centre like KKCE to support them to build their own Soundtrails, this goes to the heart of the ethos of Soundtrails and our work with communities.
Soundtrails would also like to thank Australian historian, Dr Heather Goodall —who has forged a strong connection with the college and is currently researching Kapila Khanvala—for introducing us to Dr Inbaraj and the college. We look forward to seeing where this Australia/Indian connection leads to.
