PhD—Soundtrails: in search of a locative home

PhD Cover

Readers might like to know that a pdf copy of the PhD of Soundtrails founder and co-director, Hamish Sewell, is now available to read. The thesis was passed by both markers with no changes required and will soon be available via the Macquarie library.

Five years in the making, the research discusses in-depth the background to Soundtrails and its radio documentary approach to audio; and its position in the more commercial market today. As a production house and a platform, Soundtrails is different to most other locative audio apps today or a suite of more performative  apps and audio walks that have come and gone. It furthermore, drills down into the making of the Portland Soundtrail—the creative component—and discusses some of the dilemmas, or fault-lines encountered in the making of this work. If you’d like to know more, you can find a link at the bottom of this post on Hamish’s Substack account here.
